MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #70 (WG) DEAD GODS – “WITHOUT HEADS” CASSETTE
Ultrafast, thrash, noise with lyrics that seem like downright gibberish to me. Not too enjoyable.
MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #501 (ROBERT COLLINS) DEAD GODS / MEGADOSAGE SPLIT LP
Uhhhhh, someone wanna tell us all what rock this beast crawled out from under? My
jaw hit the floor about two seconds after the needle hit the groove and DEAD GODS
preached “Glory Without a Fight.” Their side of this masterpiece is total VOID-level
sonic obliteration, a hardcore band playing way faster, way harder, and with far more
intensity than their competency can match. Completely fukkn unhinged from start to
finish—a finish that includes two FLIPPER-tinged drug dirges interrupted by a seven-
minute radio “interview” that features several tracks from their demo. Featuring a pre-
CANDY SNATCHERS Brian Diederich, it’s hard to imagine how (or why) this has
remained under wraps for so long...and now I flip the record over for MEGADOSAGE.
Appears to be a brilliantly amped-up version of the 1985 Blacksburg Paradise demo that
I was today years old when I became cool enough to learn about. Once again, light-
speed, manic USHC that should have been distributed to the masses and shamelessly
aped a thousand times over by now. You get the sense that this is a band who could
have turned to the dark (metal) side had they stayed in the game, but thankfully we’re
left with this bastard fusion, ADRENALIN OD/VOID hybrid that makes my hair stand on
end. What’s left of it. All hail My Weed for conjuring this into existence.
FACTSHEET FIVE #29 (T/MG) DEAD GODS, “WITHOUT HEADS”
Pretty poor recording quality hardcore that’s partially redeemed by really outrageous, even blasphemous, lyrics (complete with a lyric booklet for your edification). The flip side has some sound collage type stuff as well as more heavy-duty music. Basement music for the moshing set.

Peter Bykowski, Poland
(interview by mail)
Peter: Who are the members?
dg: dead gods is Brian Diederich, Steve Loschi, and Wayne Ciccolo or Lukie on drums.
Chris: Where do you come from?
dg: Originally Blacksburg but now we all live in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Chris: How long have you been together?
dg: Since February 1988 but with Dave the new drummer June 1989
Peter: What do you speak of in your lyrics
dg: We speak against the slavery of big power monopolies, usually government because it is the biggest and has the FCC (propaganda ministry), Surgeon General, and the Police Squads. Also there is Slavery that people put on themselves in trying to become or own something or nothing. We criticize the Apartheid in the USA and racism.
Chris: How are you received audience-wise?
dg: Some say it is weird but normal people can usually deal with it. People always say you guys were great, so we are happy.
Peter: A best concert?
dg: Butthole Surfers
Peter: Some favorite bands of yours are?
dg: Terrorizer, SOD, NWA, PE, Skeletal Earth, Laibach, Siege, Outcasts, & Carcass. It changes.
Peter: What are you future plans?
dg: We are kicked. We recently regrouped in Virginia Beach after not being together for almost a year, after recording the "Without Heads" tape. Now that we are not in school we can earn money and make better quality recordings and make an LP. No one else will for us we will do it ourselves. trying to find a place to practice because we got out of the storage shed, maybe a house to live in. improving a second tape of live recordings some from 1988 and some new stuff from 89 all recorded at parties. Hopefully we will play out more soon.
Peter: Did you like the Polish cigarette that I sent you?
dg: Loved it. (Cough Cough) man this isn’t bad. I don't smoke so it took two aspirins and the rest of the bong hits to recover from it.
